Stoelzle is one of Europe's most established glass groups — spirits, pharma and a strong perfumery & cosmetics division. Brands that buy from Stoelzle sometimes ask whether a Chinese factory can be a second source. Here is a straight answer on when that works and when it does not, written by the Chinese factory in question.
This comparison is written and published by Loci Glass. We are one of the companies described below. The other company is represented using its own published materials and trade press as of October 2026, and we have tried to be fair — including on the points where they are clearly stronger than we are. If you spot an error, contact us and we will correct it.
The first Stoelzle glassworks was founded in Bärnbach, Austria in 1805. Today the group runs 6 production sites and 4 decoration facilities across Europe and the United States (a Pennsylvania plant was acquired in 2021), serving premium spirits, pharma & healthcare, medical, food & beverage, candle jars and a dedicated Perfumery & Cosmetics segment. Stoelzle Masnières (France) is the perfumery and cosmetics specialist site and added a fifth production line in 2020. Decoration — screen printing, colouring, lacquering, metallising — is done in the group's own facilities. Website: stoelzle.com

It is a genuine alternative for the middle of your range. Stoelzle's economics favour long runs. If your hero fragrance ships 200,000 units a year, stay with the European group — the per-unit cost gap narrows at that volume and the logistics are simpler. But most brands also carry 5 ml discovery vials, 15 ml travel sprays, limited editions and a nail or skincare line that each run 3,000–20,000 pcs. Those SKUs are where a 3,000-piece MOQ with in-house decoration changes the maths.
It is not a genuine alternative when you need the group's QA paper trail. Stoelzle supplies pharma and medical glass; its documentation and audit systems reflect that. A Chinese cosmetic glass factory will supply per-product test reports (migration, decoration adhesion, alcohol resistance) but does not run a pharma-grade QMS. If your compliance team requires that, keep the hero SKU in Europe.
Freight is the real trade-off, not quality. Decorated Chinese glass passes the same 75% alcohol wipe, cross-hatch and perfume compatibility tests. What changes is lead time: 30–40 days by sea to Europe. Brands that plan two or three production runs a year absorb this easily; brands that reorder monthly do not.
What brands actually do: hero flacon stays with Stoelzle; travel sizes, gift sets, discovery vials, nail polish and skincare glass move to a 3,000-piece Chinese factory. Two suppliers, one brand look — provided the Chinese factory can match the glass colour and neck finish, which is why you send a reference bottle before anything else.
For cosmetic and fragrance glass at 3,000–50,000 pcs per SKU — travel sizes, discovery vials, limited editions, nail polish and skincare bottles — yes. For a hero fragrance at 100,000+ units with EU road freight and pharma-grade QA documentation, Stoelzle remains the better fit. Many brands run both.
Usually yes for stock shapes and standard neck finishes (FEA 15, 18/415, 20/410). Send a physical reference bottle; Loci Glass measures glass colour, wall thickness, weight and neck finish and confirms before sampling. Exact proprietary Stoelzle molds are not copied — a dimensionally comparable bottle is developed instead.
Stoelzle does not publish pricing. As a reference, Loci Glass quotes a decorated 50 ml perfume flacon at roughly $0.45–0.90 ex-works at 10,000 pcs, plus $0.18–0.25 freight to Europe. Request both quotes on an identical spec to compare fairly.
Loci Glass delivers existing-mold samples in 7–15 working days and ships them by courier (3–5 days to Europe). Stoelzle does not publish sample lead times; ask your account manager.
Loci Glass supplies per-product test reports — heavy metals, decoration adhesion, alcohol resistance, perfume compatibility — and works with third-party labs (SGS, Intertek) for REACH or food-contact testing on request. It does not operate a pharma-grade quality management system.
