Berlin Packaging is the largest hybrid packaging supplier in North America: 50,000+ SKUs in stock, quick-ship, design studio, one invoice. Many beauty brands start there. This article explains what you trade when you go factory-direct to China instead — and when that trade is worth making. Written by the factory.
This comparison is written and published by Loci Glass. We are one of the companies described below. The other company is represented using its own published materials and trade press as of October 2026, and we have tried to be fair — including on the points where they are clearly stronger than we are. If you spot an error, contact us and we will correct it.

Go factory-direct when the bottle is decorated and the run is 3,000–50,000 pcs. A distributor's stock bottle is undecorated; decoration is a second step with its own MOQ and lead time. From the factory, the frosted, hot-stamped, electroplated bottle is one run and one price, and there is no distribution margin on top. For a brand that has settled its design, this is typically 25–45% cheaper per unit landed — but you must plan 60–75 days ahead.
Stay with the distributor when you need stock next week. If you ran out of 2 oz Boston rounds and the launch is Friday, a quick-ship catalogue is irreplaceable. No factory in any country competes with a warehouse 300 miles away.
Stay with the distributor for plastic, metal and closures bundled on one PO. A glass factory supplies glass. We source caps and pumps to spec and fit-test them, but if your bill of materials is 60% plastic, a hybrid supplier's one-invoice model is worth its margin.
Go factory-direct when you want to own your mold. Custom tooling from a factory is $2,000–8,000 with ownership in writing. That mold is an asset you can move; a programme run through a distributor may leave the tooling relationship with them.
How US and EU brands typically combine them: distributor for emergency stock, closures and plastic components; factory-direct for the decorated glass that defines the brand, ordered two or three times a year with staggered shipments. The factory's 3,000-piece MOQ makes this viable for brands well below distributor custom-programme thresholds.
On decorated glass at 3,000–50,000 pcs, usually yes — there is no distribution margin and decoration is done in the same run. Loci Glass quotes a decorated 30 ml dropper bottle at $0.65–1.05 ex-works at 3,000 pcs, plus $0.18–0.25 freight to the US or EU. For undecorated stock needed quickly, a distributor's price includes a convenience that is often worth paying for.
Loci Glass: 3,000 pcs per SKU on existing molds, including decoration. Distributors sell stock bottles by the case with no production MOQ, but custom decoration or custom programmes carry their own minimums.
Samples 7–15 working days; production 20–30 working days after approval; sea freight 30–40 days to the US East Coast or Europe (15–20 days to the US West Coast). Plan 60–75 days from approval to door. Air freight is available for urgent small quantities.
Not necessarily. Loci Glass quotes FOB, CIF (to your port) or DDP (to your door) through partner forwarders. DDP means the forwarder handles customs and delivers; you pay one landed price.
Yes — sourced to your specification and fit-tested on the actual bottle before shipment. The difference from a hybrid distributor is that these come from partner component factories rather than a single in-house catalogue.
